Payton 4th Grade Rep

In the spirit of Abe Lincoln, Payton attempted once again this year to be elected as Class Representative. With this being his second attempt he knew clearly how the 'road to election' is fraught with pain, disappointment, and in light of last years winner, empty promises (not really, I don't even remember who won last year).

Similar to last years campaign, he hired me (Dad) as his campaign manager/architect and Mom as his campaign organizer, reminder, poster architect, and moral support.

He was determined to include his new pet, a bearded dragon (reptile) in his campaign platform.

He entered the race under the rallying cry of "Be Great, Vote for Payt & His Running Mate". Payt being Payton & His Running Mate being Verde, his bearded dragon. As you can see from his poster, while not grammatically correct, it follows this campaign structure.

Once again he was required to give a speech in front of his classmates [truth be told this is the singular reason why April and I feel so strongly about encouraging our kids to run for student council]. The theme of his speech was 'I will be sure to ATTACK the issues'.

The in-class-room 'smart board' displayed a home-made, yet professional, video of Verde 'attacking' and eating his dinner -- live crickets! As Payton spoke about the REAL issues facing his elementary school, Verde was attacking his prey (in slow motion I might add) over this shoulder. It was riveting video footage if I do say so myself!

Was showing this video a cheap and politically dirty campaign move......possibly by some candidates standards.

However, when the following days results were read, Payton Bingham was announced as Ms Gullicson's 4th Grade Class Representative!

We are proud of you Payt.......win or lose........we are proud that you will and want to get up and speak in front of your peers!

Now, here's to the dream of chocolate milk in the drinking fountains!

Go get'em Payt!!

Y Not

Payton and I went to the BYU vs OU game last night at the new Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, TX. We had a GREAT time and it what made it even better is that BYU won 14 - 13. The stadium is tremendous and the large video board spans from the 20 yard line to the 20 yard line. Your eyes have to adjust when you first see it because the brain cannot comprehend something so large.
Anyhow, I am sure there are many OU fans out there today saying that if Bradford had not gotten hurt BYU would not have stood a chance. I am disappointed that Bradford went out and I do hope he returns soon, however, his first half of 96 yards passing was not 'Heisman-like' nor was his leadership on how the team entered the field before the game (late and without passion or excitement). I do think it is interesting how Bradford who last year was only touched (includes sacks and tackles) 43 times all season while playing in the dominant conference of the Big 12 and against at least one SEC team, Florida, in the BCS Championship game. Yet last night against BYU he was hit/sacked at least 4 times including the injury. Yes, he is talented, but if given that much time in the pocket untouched, my younger brothers could be Heisman trophy winners!
BYU must have just gotten lucky right? BYU's defense stopped OU several times and WON the game.....when Bradford was in and when he was out. Anyhow, Payt and I had a great time, hope you enjoyed the pictures.
